A Short Guide For Amateur Photographers

A Short Guide For Amateur Photographers

Becoming a professional is a long path which you will have to take. No shortcuts exist and thus those that think they can become a pro in a matter of weeks should give up before they even start as they will waste their time as well as money.

Learning about the camera, angles of shooting, light and photography styles takes time. Dedication to the learning process is the first step into becoming a pro. This post will remind you about some primary photography subjects you will want to learn.

Learning about the camera and how it works

The camera is the primary tool of a photographer. Knowing how it works is essential to becoming a successful photographer. A modern camera has a lot of settings, and a pro knows everything about them. Every wannabe photographer should invest some time into learning about those settings as they affect the final product.

Photography styles – Choosing a style

If you follow our site, then you know that there are around fifteen styles of photography that range from portraits to aerial and architectural genres. Choosing one method will determine the needs you will have to fulfill, from the device you will use to the expenses that will go into travels. We covered several of those styles in our previous articles, so feel free to check them out.

The best way to choose the photography style is to check them all and determine which one suits you the best. It’s all about doing what you like. If you hate taking pictures of people, then candid photography that focuses on people isn’t for you. The same conclusion applies to landscape genre and people who hate driving around the nature looking for places they can photograph.

Picture editing – The essential part of photography

Every photography studio has an editor or an editing department that works on pictures to make them better than they are. You don’t have to do this as a beginner. However, editing is a part of photography because it can help you to remove flaws from an otherwise perfect photo. There is nothing wrong with editing pictures, as long as the subject remains true.

Cameras That Professional Photographers Use

Cameras That Professional Photographers Use

Every professional photographer knows how important is to use a good camera. It makes a difference between a picture that will make money and one that won’t. DSLR cameras are the standard in the world of professional photography because they are superior to everything else.

Amateurs can buy devices that aren’t DSLR, but they will have to upgrade to DSLR if they want to go pro. All of our photographers use DSLR because they are reliable. The cost of such devices is too much for anyone who isn’t a pro.

Nikon D850 – High resolution with a high speed

This beast of a camera costs over 3200 dollars, and it’s worth every one of them if you are a pro. Several of our photographers use this device due to its fantastic shutter speed as well as high resolution. It is the ultimate DSLR device at the moment, and it will stay so for a while due to its advanced settings and tech that it has.

It has massive 45.4MP sensors that accentuate even the smallest details. It also has an excellent noise performance even in situations where you have to use high levels of ISO. It also comes with 7fps burst shooting option that is followed by a plethora of advanced features every photographer will like. If you want the best on the market, then this is a device you should buy.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Canon was always known as a manufacturer that brings high-quality products to the market. 5D is the flagship series that introduces tech other companies copy to keep up with them. Mark One of this series was the first device that introduced full-frame photography to people. The second model introduced HD video capture option on a DSLR device.

The third model from this series is widely praised for its performance. This made it the favorite among pros. The majority of professional photographers owned at least one device from this series. Many of them used Mark 3 due to its superiority to the competition.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is an overall improvement to the previous model. It brings the old model up-to-date with the upgrade of all existing features and addition of some new things. It doesn’t perform as well as Nikon D850, but it is still a device that is worth buying. The price of this model is just over 300 dollars, which isn’t much considering what this camera can do.

Selling Products With Photography

Selling Products With Photography

Marketing is all about presenting a product is the best way it is possible, so people will like it enough to spend money on it. Pictures play a big part in promotional campaigns, and thus a smart photographer can make a decent living if they choose a photography style that focuses on marketing.

Several different styles cater to the marketing business, and they are quite popular among young people. However, the popularity of these styles makes it hard for an individual to become someone whose services are highly demanded. But, if you manage to make it work then the amount of profit you will reap is higher than the majority of other photography styles will get you.

Food photography – more than just taking pictures of your meals

Many restaurants make use out of food photography to advertise their business. However, this doesn’t mean that they just take photos of their dishes with mobile phones. No, pictures you see on their sites are made by professionals who work along with food stylists to produce images that are perfect.

This style is focused on the use of natural light as it allows for the production of pictures that accentuate the colors of the ingredients found in the dish. If you are a creative individual, then it won’t take much to become a food stylist along with being a professional food photographer. You don’t need any advanced cooking knowledge as the food you see in pictures doesn’t taste good due to it being just a subject of a photo and the aesthetic is more important than taste (in this case).

Fashion photography – Capturing the beauty

Fashion photography is all about finding the right angle from which the subject and the clothes they wear will shine the best. The environment doesn’t matter as it is possible to create fashion photos both in a studio and outside. The photographer needs to have a good eye to choose pictures that reflect the beauty of the subject better than other images.

One good thing about this style is that the subject knows which poses work best and the fact that you can take hundreds of photos before choosing one or two that will go into a magazine or on a site.

The Vast World Of Photography – Introduction Of Photography Genres

The Vast World Of Photography – Introduction Of Photography Genres

The world of photography is vast as there are many ways to take photos and many different subjects of the same. The fact that more than a dozen of photography genres exist will tell you that there are many exciting paths for an amateur photographer to take. This article will give you a small peek at these various styles of taking pictures. This won’t be a detailed explanation of those styles, but a short introduction of the majority of them. This, hopefully, will make you interested in one or two of those styles and you will ask around and do some research about them.

Our photography studio focuses on a few chosen styles of photography. Every photographer we employ uses their time to perfect one technique of photography which makes them superior to people who try to master several different genres. Our advice to young photographers is to check several types and to choose one. You can switch between them if you find one or another too dull for you.

Interesting photography genres – Aerial

The aerial photography is something that many find attractive, but few choose to learn appropriately. Everyone likes to see aerial pictures because they show us the beauty of an area from a perspective that isn’t seen on a regular basis. This genre of photography takes a lot of time because the difference between a perfect picture and something uninteresting is tiny.

Another big thing about the aerial genre is the investments you will have to make to create pictures that are worth some money. The device you will take photos with needs big lenses because you will have to take the image from a faraway location. It also needs to be a high-quality product because it needs to capture objects in near vicinity as well as objects that are far away in the same frame.

Then there are the costs of going to a location. Professional aerial photographers tend to spend a lot of money to get to a position from which they can take a picture, and this involves everything from helicopters and hot air balloons to hiking up a dangerous mountain.

Who chooses aerial photography over other styles?

Only the most dedicated individuals choose this genre of photography to make money. If you think that this path is for you, then you can try to take aerial photos with a device that doesn’t cost too much. Hike up to a location that gives you a good view of the scenery and try it. This will provide you with some basic idea of whether that is for you or not.

Do note that the path to perfection of creating aerial photos is rough and the money you will make, in the beginning, won’t be enough to cover even the necessary costs of producing the picture. But, as with any other profession, hard work and dedication will make you money in the future. In this case, your aerial images will cost a lot as they are highly sought after by many people.

Exploring The World Of Photography Styles

Exploring The World Of Photography Styles

Photography has fifteen distinct styles you can try. This diversity is an excellent thing as it allows young people to specialize in one genre and make money from it. Now, our company is all about the work with people which is why we don’t take on jobs of creating landscape pictures or something similar.

However, you don’t have to focus on a genre of photography we work with, at the moment, as every style can bring you money as long as you are dedicated to perfecting it.

If you are good at what you are doing, then we will find a place for you in our company. If you don’t want (or can’t) work for us, then many other studios will take you into their ranks. On the other hand, you can always start as an independent photographer. If your work gets recognition, then photography studios will fight over who gets to hire you.

Architectural photography – A genre that focuses on exploration

This genre is all about exploring a city and capturing small architectural wonders it hides. You have probably seen pictures like this, and you didn’t appreciate them as much as you should at first. Every city has beautiful places that are worth looking at, but only a few experienced photographers can capture their beauty at its best and present it interestingly.

A professional architectural photograph needs time to find locations that are worthy of a picture and finding the right time of day to take those pictures. This requires a lot of dedication to the work. Enhancing those pictures through editing process is also there to accentuate their beauty. This can either ruin the photo or improve it, depending on the creativity of the photographer and their vision of what the final product will look like.

Candid photography – Moments that won’t happen again

Candid genre refers to capturing spontaneous moments of life that happen without any knowledge of the author or anyone else involved. Searching for these moments is futile, unlike in the architectural genre of photography, and you won’t make good pictures if you try to make them happen.

The best pictures that come out of this genre have subjects that are unaware of the photo being taken. Some individuals use the long zoom to capture such moments which is a viable way to do it. This style is popular among people because they only need a good eye for the moment and some creativity to recognize events and scenes worth photographing.

Understanding Photography Styles – Documentary Photography

Understanding Photography Styles – Documentary Photography

We already covered several photography styles in two of our previous articles. This post is a continuation of that subject as we take a look at several other genres. This post will give you an insight into one of the styles

If you find it interesting, then do more research on the same as it can turn into your source of income. And remember, if you like one style then there is a good chance that you will be good at it as dedication works better if you like what you do.

Documentary photography – it’s all about the story

Documentary photography is a broad genre as it covers all subjects that turn into an article. Pictures that compose a documentary article focus on one topic. However, the approach to the said subject doesn’t have to be same for every image that makes the story aka documentary.

This style has several different sub-genres that determine the way you will approach the subject. One way to take pictures is to focus on the issue and make it the centerpiece of your work. For example, if you are taking photos of a documentary about an individual, then all images you choose will have that individual as the centerpiece of every picture.

Another approach is to make the story the focus of your work. This means that subjects of your pictures will change, but the story that connects them will still seep through them. An example of this is capturing the story of an athlete. Talking with them is the first step in making them relaxed and then taking pictures during the conversation. Taking pictures of their home, training grounds, rewards, medals and so on will also tell you their story even though the individual isn’t in the frame.

The third sub-genre of this style is all about telling a story about a broad subject (war, starvation in a country, homelessness and so on). The theme is extensive, and thus you can’t take its picture without using different individuals or scenes to represent it. An excellent documentary photographer knows that even the smallest things can tell a big story as long as they are used correctly.

Camera – Understanding The Tool Of The Trade

Camera – Understanding The Tool Of The Trade

Individuals who know little to nothing about the device they use are nothing more than people who see photography as a hobby and nothing more. Even amateur photographers know something about the tool they use. They also know that becoming a pro is hard and knowing about every aspect of that work is what makes a pro.

Things about the camera any amateur should know

Almost every beginner will learn something about exposure. The problem is that knowing about exposure means little because they forget to learn about the camera and how it reacts to the light.

A metering mode is there to allow you to change the way the camera will catch the scene. Taking a picture with metering mode will result in a different outcome from taking the same image with an evaluating mode. If you want to be a photographer, then you should test the metering mode and see what kind of differences it makes.

If you know little about exposure and light, then the majority of your pictures will have an uneven exposure. This is fine as long as you are not trying to sell your photos or work for a photography studio. And, you won’t be able to spot the different exposure in a picture if you own an LCD screen due to its brightness as well as susceptibility to the light.

Other aspects of the camera you should know about

Every camera has various shooting modes that the photographer can use to take pictures whose quality will be superior due to the clever use of the available light. Amateurs like to use automatic shooting mode settings because they are told that the manual mode isn’t practical. The truth is that the manual way is perfect for professionals because they know which style to use on which occasion.

The depth of field is essential in creation excellent pictures. Low environmental light forces the camera (and a photographer who tunes the settings manually) to allow more light to enter the camera through exposure which reduces the depth of field and that can ruin the image.

A creative photographer makes various uses of high exposure with the low depth of field. On the other hand, an amateur can ruin every picture they take if they fiddle with wide exposure. One thing is sure; some styles of photography can make use of the wide exposure, while others can’t. For example, landscape photography needs narrow exposure to keep the focus on all elements within the picture, both those that are near and those that are far.

These several aspects of the camera aren’t the only things that will determine whether you will take good pictures or not. Read more about the camera and its elements to get better at being a photographer.

Beginner’s Guide To Photography

Beginner’s Guide To Photography

Photography is a complicated subject, and it takes more than one short article to explain some necessary things about it. This article will give you an insight into some things every amateur photographer needs to know.

If you want to turn photography from a hobby to a money-making business, then this article is an excellent point to start. This post will contain some basic info about some things that will turn you into a photographer who will know how to make pictures people will buy.

Different aspects of exposure

Exposure is an important aspect of photography. The lack of knowledge about it will prevent you from taking good pictures. There are three aspects of exposure you should know about: aperture, shutter speed and ISO. However, exposure isn’t as simple as that.

You will have to invest some time into learning about these three things and how they interact to master the device you use. So, let this post be your first step into becoming someone whose pictures are worth a lot.

–    Aperture

Aperture is a hole in the lens through which the light goes through. A wider aperture allows more light to pass through which offsets the lack of light in the environment. The offset of this is the lack of field of depth in pictures that have little environmental lighting.

Understanding aperture is the first step toward learning how to make excellent pictures without too much light, or vice versa aka pictures in the environment that has too much light.

–    Shutter speed

Aperture determines how much light will reach the shutter of a camera. At that point you have to determine how much of that light you will use. Learning what kind of a shutter speed works with what kind of environment is something every photographer did. It’s impossible to go pro in this business if you know little to nothing about this.

–    ISO

The third aspect of exposure is the ISO. Increasing the number of the ISO will increase the exposure you get. The offset of this is the decrease of the image quality as the amount of digital noise increases.

The majority of amateurs would think that the quality of the image is essential and thus the ISO should be kept down. But, if you increase the ISO, then the motion blur will go down. So, the balance between these two things is what makes a great photo.
